In light of pending legislation, I would like to see someone develop a low price point ADS-B transponder that can broadcast position and a selectable secondary radar squawk code in the 1200-1299 range.
I have read and seen some of the commercial solutions; even Sagetech's "low-cost" solution, but for hobbyists, low cost is sub $500 not $8900.
The device that can port the on-board GPS data and broadcast its position at 1090Mhz @1mw.
Has anyone been developing a RCer's version of a ADS-B?

You can have a look at FLARM, http://www.flarm.com , it is a low cost alert system used in Europe for inflight deconfliction between gliders. It become mandatory in France.
An experiment took place last month with a beacon on a 700 grammes UAV.http://www.aerobuzz.fr/spip.php?article5486
