Manual Altitude Control - PID Query

A query regarding the Throttle Rate P parameter.

In a recent test of firmware 2.5 I was flying in Stabilise (Simple) mode. I had great difficulty trying to maintain a constant altitude. The Hexa seems incredibly sensitive to throttle input. In fact, it seems quite impossible to maintain a constant altitude. The effect is that the Hexa is continuosly moving up and down (under my constant corrective inputs). When I could (briefly) keep a stable altitude, it would lose or gain altitude as soon as I began to move about. This then required constant corrections to the throttle, some vertical yoyoing and inevitably a hard landing (when I started to panic!). Fortunately I managed not to break anything for once!

If I adjust Throttle Rate P downwards, will this help to maintain a consistent altitude in manual Stabilise mode? It is currently set at 0.35. Any advice appreciated..

My Setup:

APM1 (firmware v 2.5)

JDrones Hexa

880kV motors

12x4.5 props

4S Lipo

Stabilize is a totally manual throttle. You can adjust your radio to give you an expo curve for the throttle, but adjusting the gains won't work. They aren't used in manual throttle.
