Hi! Im trying to update my mediatek gps firmware as a fix for the red led not showing up on my board even when the gps has a solid blue gps lock indicator.
Procedure for firmware update is found at http://code.google.com/p/arducopter/wiki/MediaTek. I think I figure out all the procedure EXCEPT the mediatek unit has a button cell battery on it!
The mediatek gps I got from diydrones store do not have a battery! Does this mean I have to hook up a battery? If I do :( any instructions on how to go about it. I am hoping the power from the USB eliminates the need for a battery.
Thanks.

You're hope is right on. There's no need for the battery so it was removed on the latest version. As far as I know, even the one with a battery doesn't stay on when you disconnect it from your APM or USB port...so not sure what it was really good for. Anyway, it's not necessary so don't worry.
