i was flying today with the recently updated software 2.2 b2 (jDrones hexa frame) in a bit of wind and ran into a fairly serious problem with attitude control.  i was flying stabilize (makiing time waiting for gps lock), and everything was fine for a minute or so, no problem at all fighting the wind and everything under control.  all of a sudden it began pulling to the right to such an extent that i needed to apply almost full left roll to counter it (plus a moment of panic before i realised what was wrong).

the roll error was within the bounds of the control input so i was able to counter and miraculously get it down to the ground in one piece and the right way up, but applying almost full left roll to do so - a week or two ago i would not have been able to react to this.

i attach screenshot of the log where you can clearly see how the roll value goes wild at around line 1950 and stays there until on the ground, only ramping down very slowly once landed.  what could be the cause of this, is it just a random problem with the roll accelerometer or something more complex?  should i post the full log to analyze? i flew yesterday (in lighter wind) and had no problems in stabilize.

regards,

james

I had a very similar problem, lost a prop as a result, thankfully not a hard crash. Still have no idea what caused it, my props are well balanced and vibration is really low, also my APM1 is mounted on two layers of foam rubber.

Would like to prevent a re-occurrence!

  • This is becoming a common occurance as more people fly with the system.  We believe that it is caused by vibrations.  You'll see more people talking about this as the "leans" problem.

    Are you APM1 or APM2?
