Hi all,
I've got a frame (Quadrotor RM450 V2 Airframe) that can snuggly fit 12x45's with about 20mm gap between the props, which gives it enough physical clearance for the props to spin freely without worry about them hitting each other. I've flown it with 8" props and it flies fairly nice, but needs large throttle increments to gain altitude. I also want to add a FPV kit shortly... so figure a little extra thrust would be useful!
So.. a few questions
- Is there a minimum distance between props that should be maintained due to turbulence/interference on a quad?
- Does the arm distance make a quad more stable/unstable/reactive?
- And given I have an APM2 on board self levelling, should I care?

My gut feeling is I should order some 10" props... but as I have some 12" handy... I was looking for a little advice before starting crashing experimentation :)
Oh yeah, I've got 2 sets of engines too... 1200kv and 850kv, so I can fit either to match the props.
Cheers,
Alex.

If there is clearance, it should work fine. Going from 8" to 12" will increase the current draw drastically. Go for the 850kv motors and 3S lipo, and then maybe try 4S but make sure to check the temperature of motors and esc after flight.
