In any case, it seems you need to get 5V to the board somehow. I've only ever used the ArduPilotMega, you can provide power into the board either through the Servo Outputs (when you connect your ESC) - in which case you must provide 5volts, or you can provide power through the voltage regulator on the back right of the board - in which case you must provide at least 6v because the voltage regulator will consume some.
