I have a 3DR x8+ and I'm using Mission Planner to plan flights. I must admit I have crashed a few times and need to replace parts, but i'm not sure what is causing this. I can connect to the X8+ via the 3dr 915mhz radio in the usb port of the laptop no problem, but after the drone gets a few meters away it doesn't update the position of drone and none of the telemetry updates on screen. I continue to get the telemetry data on the handheld transmitter, and I never lose signal to the handheld transmitter. I did have to replace the 3DR radio on the back of the drone at one point. When the X8+ was new and I would fly auto missions the position and telemetry data would update no matter how far away the drone was. I'm not even sure how to troubleshoot this. Does the handheld controller talk to the drone via the 3DR radio or does it talk to the FrSky telemetry unit? If it was a bad radio I would think that both the handheld transmitter and mission planner would lose signal.

sounds to me like your telemetry radio ground unit is going bad or has a bad antenna
