i am currently lost because the motor will run but when you give it throotle the motors just rev and the gear doesnt kick in to move. does anyone know if it because the speed control is faulty or just bad motor?

How about providing some pictures of your rover setup to give us an idea of what you are working with in relation to your issue?
Also, what navigation controller (APM, Pixhawk, PX4, etc), R/C equipment, and motor controller are you using?
The more information that you provide the easier it will be troubleshoot your issue.

im using the pixhawk with the turnigy 9x radio which works fine. The rover has a shift, steering, and throttle servo which are pluged into the pixhawk. But im at work so i have no camera right now. also, it looks like there are 2 seperate speed controllers but the rover wont go in gear to move forward or backward

What is the brand of your R/C model? It almost sounds like the brushed version of the Traxxas E-Maxx with the two speed transmission.
