MQ-9 Reaper

Hi,I'm new to drones but have many years experience maintaining and flying live aircraft. I am attempting to create a scale model of the MQ-9 Reaper for arial photography purposes. Has anyone attempted something similar to this? Does anyone have a similar aircraft? I have already built the airframe and half of the skin. It is designed to be just over 10Kg with a wingspan of just over 2.5 metres.CheersJake

  • There's a good build thread for a 1:5 scale Predator over at RCU:

But recently the guy has slowed down. Maybe he'll send you his CAD sections.

  • Currently this aircraft is not to be used within US or Europe. it is for research off the coast of New Zealand. The aircraft will be subjected to adverse that a lighter aircraft may possibly not handle. It is all within regulations as it will be used over international waters, therefor little restrictions apply.

Wow--that's huge! I haven't seen any Predator-class model of that size.

Out of curiosity, why did you make it so large? Obviously you can do good aerial photography with much smaller platforms.

Note that you are exposing yourself to much more regulation at that size. The proposed regs for UAV certification have 4 lbs as the limit for light regulation.

    Jake,

If you plan to use the MQ-9 Reaper for commerical purposes, you need to do research on the commerical certification process. Otherwise, that is quite a big drone for hobby purposes.

    Just a thought.
