The new 6DOF from sparkfun has all surface mount so no gyros on daughter boards.http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=9431"Description: There's a lot of punch packed into this little IMU. The 6DOF Razor makes use of ST's LPR530AL (pitch and roll) and LY530ALH (yaw) gyros, as well as the popular ADXL335 triple-axis accelerometer, to give you six degrees of measurement on a single, flat board."

A somewhat off-topic question, but by using the LPR530, you get from 300 to 1200deg/sec angular speed, I thought about using the LPR510 which gives 100 to 400deg/sec. In your opinion and experience, what is the maximum speed one should target?
For the wierdos who just care about flying in GPS range there should still be a 3DOF product. Obviously you'll get a lot of hate from the motion capture industry for not promoting The Standard IMU. VicaCopter used a 3DOF IMU algorithm & Neural Robotics probably did. It was more reliable than using compasses & accelerometers. The source code has always been available.
