New Iris+, won't arm or anything but yell at me.

I won a 3D Robotics Iris+, I did a brief 5 minute flight, coming from flying Phantoms, I wanted to get familiar with the controls.

After that, I plugged into my wife's computer to set up a mission.  I also looked around at some of the settings.  Now the iris only flashes yellow, and constantly screams an alarm.  If I try to arm it, and try to spool up the rotors, it silences the alarm briefly, but then responds with a low beedoo sound then right back to the alarm.

If I plug in the antennae to my android phone it says failsafe, and the calibration is off.  I've tried calibrating outdoors in an open field.  It says success but so flashes yellow, screams the alarm and won't arm.

I'm not sure if I had inadvertantly altered a setting.  How to reset the defaults in the settings?

  • Any updates? Did you get-er-done?

    • It's been nearly a year since my initial post.  I've now got well over 300 flights on my Iris+, and still love it.  Recently I left my bird at the high shop to get some work done.  They inspected my motors, esc's and installed the minum osd, as well as a better joint for the live view screen.

Now they are running into an issue with not being able to have both the osd, and the ability to use for Planner, several different phones, different dongle and testing.  They've been able to have either 1 or the other, but not both.  They are still working on it, as I prepare for another 3 week hitch on the north slope.  They have the osd plugged into the telemetry 1 spot on the Pixhawk.  Anyone know what could be the issue?

    • I'm sorry I keep forgetting to reply.  I've recalibrated the IMU, compass and esc's.  I was able to reinstall the firmware, and have been flying ever since.  Lesson learned, when using mission planner, turn the volume up so that you can hear what it's telling you.

  • I would hook it up to mission planner with the radio and see what it says is the fail safe or error.  You can also load the default parms for an IRIS+ in the advanced params area where there is a pull down with the default 3DR IRIS+ params.

It goes without saying, remove the props if you are playing this deep.
  • Compass calibration needs to be done. Also make sure it's level when you plug in battery and its booting up.
    • I've done that, several times.  It says success but still does the same thing.  I'm not sure what I goofed up.  I'm not familiar enough with APM to know what I'm doing.  I wish I could reset to factory defaults.  The only thing I saw was for the original iris, not the iris+.

Where is your throttle? All the way down

        • Yes, I ensured throttle was all the way down, switches and even the dials at proper preflight settings.  I'm fairly sure that I mucked something up in settings.  If I plug back into the computer, and select iris params, will that restore the iris+ to original factory settings?

          • I'm not to familiar with Iris+. I'm getting one delivered on Tuesday. But I've been using APM's for about a year but not Pixhawk. Pixhawk is what's in the Iris+. I played with a Pixhawk 2 days ago and had the flashing yellow light and I did the compass calibration again with Mission Planner and it fixed it.

You won your Itis+ from Demenseed right? The wheel? I watched that and was jealous. I guess you might need to learn all the parameters a bit more and maybe call 3DR on Monday. Also join the Facebook group called 3DRobotics Iris Owners Page. Lots of awesome support on there. Even 3DR techs help people on there.
