Newb question about MOT_CURR_MAX and Taranis Telem

I've searched and can't come up with a direct answer, and the wording leaves it vague in my mind.

1) Is MOT_CURR_MAX for each motor, or the combination and total current? In reading it sounds like it is intended to save the battery from excess current, which makes me think it should be total current. But the name MOT_CURR_MAX indicates to me it is a value for each motor. Ex. I have 30a continuous/35a burst esc's and motors/PDB to handle it. If I want to set MOT_CURR_MAX to clip at 30a, do I enter 30 or 120?

2) Another Q also related to current. I have telemetry set up on my Taranis, and current is something I have been watching. Am I seeing total system current, or an 'average' of sorts from each motor/esc/arm. At full throttle punch it is reporting 30a +/- a few. That can't be total, can it? If it is that's why my motors are always cool, esc's are barely warm and I never detect heat in the battery, even after spirited full pack flight.

My 'Clone 450' info....

M8N GPS/Compass

basic FPV gear (700ttl cam and 200mw Tx)

Your basic eBay/Banggood/HobbyKing special. Frame, esc's, motors came in an eBay kit. Pixhawk clone from Banggood. Craft & Theory, HobbyKing and eBay for the rest. It flies remarkably well. Way more fun than my P3, and even though I am really enjoying my Mavic Pro, I find myself wishing I had more batteries for my ZMR450. I'm just about to build a ZMR250 with a CC3D.

Anyhow, thanks for your help. And big thank you to the Dev's, past and current. Because of you all I am successfully flying my first built/DIY quad, and these are the first questions I have had to ask.

Cheers and happy, safe flying. Hopefully the holidays brought you some nice new gear for the new year.

  • Any update on this param? Does the param denote total amperage or per motor amperage?
