Newbie: In FBWA mode, surfaces not responding!!!(Solved)

Greetings dears,

I am using APM 2.72 from HobbyKing and using ArduPlane. I setup the softwares, firmwares, and calibrations from the Ardupilot website's instructions. Mission Planner version 1.3.43 ArduPlane V3.4.0 .

My plane is an aerobatic plane (KATANA SR 1500mm) and i am using 5 servos (2 elevators, 2 ailerons and one rudder).

My channels sets as follows:

Channel 8: for flight modes as per ArduPlane.

Channel 1: for aileron no.1 and mixed with channel 5 for aileron no.2. Of course i did the RC5 to function as AileronWithInput (value 18).

Channel 2: for elevator no.1 and mixed with channel 6 for elevator no.2. Of course i did the RC6 to function as ElevatorWithInput (value 20).

Channel 3: for electric motor.

Channel 4: for rudder.

I dont want to use Y harness for ailerons coz i dont have it ^^ lol .

I setup all the 6 flight modes using my Hitec Aurora 9 << piece of cake after sometime ^^ :D.

Now i am jerking in the FBWA mode (Actually all the modes except the MANUAL MODE), when i hit the switch for the FBWA one elevator only responds and any other surface dont, is there any particular parameter i am missing ???? (I did the Advanced parameter from the Planner tap and then Advanced Layout ).

Is it because my external GPS is no Fix ?? as i am inside the home the gps is hard to lock/fix.

Please guys where i am mistaken ?

Thanks

Sorry to be long.

Appreciate

Best Regards

  • Thank you dear Paul Atherton for your continues assistance, very appreciate it.

I will try to check in GPS fix.

    Thanks again

  • I have never personally used FBWB but given that it is a GPS assisted mode, maybe the movement has to do with this. Sorry not much help but maybe a direction to investigate.

  • Hello Dears again,

I did change the RC5 to 4 and RC6 to 19, but it lets the two elevator servos moves opposite to each other (meaning one up and the other down).

BUT GRATEFULLY IT WORKS NOW, after i changed the RC5 to 20 (ElevatorWithInput) and RC6 to 18 (AileronWithInput), it was some how reversed.

and every mode works great, but FBWB no elevator movement observed, only ailerons and rudder. I dont know but maybe it needs the tuning perhaps?!!

The throw in each mode differ than the other, is that normal ? and can i adjust those throws for every particular mode from the parameters ?
    .

  • Hello dears,

    * Update, i reprogrammed everything (set everything to default para.) and it seems worked quite better. Now the in any mode auto or what ever i can control all surfaces. in manual mode the mixed elevator worked inversely so i have to invert it in mission planner right ? BUT where it is quite wrong is when I toggle to the FBWA or any auto mode this what happen:
If i put the elevator stick down means ascending the plane: the right elevator only, moves down and the left aileron only, moves up.
If i put the elevator stick up means descending the plane: the right elevator only, moves up and the left aileron only, moves down.
If i put the aileron stick right: the left elevator only, moves down, the rudder moves to the right, and the right aileron only, moves up.
If i put the aileron stick left: the left elevator only, moves up. the rudder moves to the left. and the right aileron only, moves down.
It is like it do ELEVON is it ?
So what is wrong, maybe rc calibration or missing parameters?
I hope this is gonna be more easier :D
    Thanks

  • Thank you very much for your replay dear Paul.

Okay, i will try to do it from zero and see what will happen. Hopefully everything turned good.

    Thanks again

  • Nobel, I am no expert on the Plane setup - I do have one plane configured in delta formation - so just 2 control surfaces - far simpler than yours. I simply read the manual and it worked for me. I also had the benefit of someone else's config file to use for reference which helped a lot. Sorry, I can't be much help.

    Please guys any idea,

Is it that i need to tune to see the surfaces moves in FBWA ??

I tried to tune using familiar airframes but nothing happened at all. So i assume it is not the case for my problem.!!
