Newbie Question About Batteries

Sorry if this is a silly question but I have a question about batteries.

I have an F550 and I'm currently using a 4S 14.8v 4000mah 30c which weighs 407g. My motors draw 20amps which is a combined 120amps. If I'm correct, the battery allows me to draw 120amps safely.

My question is, can I use a 4S 14.8v 16000mah 10c, which weighs 1.1kg? The way I see it, I would be getting 4 times the capacity for just over twice the weight? From what I understand, I can draw up to 160amps safely from this battery which more than covers the 120 required by the motors..

Is this a bad choice?

  • 120A on the 4000mAh30C is right not he edge, you are working it to it's maximum stated capacity.
Not a great way to treat the battery and I would watch your discharge and temperatures carefully.

Your 16000mAh10C is rated at 160A so not so bad BUT your current drain is going to be higher lifting the extra load
    How much higher?

Try loading the copter with the extra weight and do a short burst run (<30sec) to see what current you will need and how everything else is going to cope with that.

Must be a heavy rig to draw 120A.
