No Servo movement or radio information received

Hi,

One week ago i purchased a ArduPilot from CoolComponents in the UK.  Along with FTDI cable and Shield (with airspeed sensor).   I am powering the AP from a Futaba R607FS 2.4Gz receiver and controlling it via a Futaba FF9 with Futaba TM-7 2.4Gz module.

TX, RX and Servos tested fine when not integrated with AP.

I have connected Ch5 on the receiver to the ctrl pin header making sure that ground it towards the outside of the board.  I have also connected ch1 on the receiver to In1 header on AP.  I have also connected 1 servo to out1 on AP.  In all cases i have triple checked that ground is towards the outside of the board.

I have tested with both AuduPilot 2.6 and AirframeTest, uploading with Arduino version 18 and with the VCC wire cut on the FTDI plug.

The problem that im seeing is that when i operate the 3 position switch C (assigned to ch5 in the AUX setup in the TX) on the TX i do see 3 mode changes on AP and also reflected in the Test_Switch program, however i do not see any input from ch1 of the receiver nor do i see any movement of the servo when i operate the roll stick on the TX.

I have hunted everywhere and cant see anyone else having this issue.

I have noticed that one of the chips (next to the holes labelled MUX) is not soldered in line with the markings on the board (see attached pics) could this be the problem and if so can you tell me why the mode changes with channel 5 switch.  This would indicate that some radio communications are working ok.

Many Thanks for any help you can give.
Kind Regards,
Tony

  • Thanks for the help Chris,
I thought i was going mad for a minute there.

Can you explian why Ch5 still operates the modes correctly and shows by led status changes on the board, is this because it does not pass thruogh the multiplexer?

    Tony,

I'm afraid it looks like you got a defective board. We've seen that soldering error a few times before in some of the early batches from Sparkfun. You should send it back for a replacement. I know it's a pain, but you really do need a new board.

    Chris
