Have you tried using the standard Octo-X configuration and then tuning the PIDs?
I'd also like an X8 setup, I have an XAircraft frame setup for X8. Its the toughest frame I've ever used, and not expensive at all. You need to do some mods to fit camera mounts to it, but its not that difficult.
