  • Hi Anne, lot of commercial drones use Pixhawk-compatible controllers with ArduPilot or PX4 firmware. You can use Mission Pilot or QGroundControl with them. Last sample is Yuneec h520.

Some manufacturers of commercial drones or autopilots can provide protocol specification for their clients and you can build your own ground station. Canadian Micropilot or German Microcopter for example.

It's not a rocket science to adapt open source GCS for almost any autopilot or drone if you know protocol.

  • Ok! Thank you very much for your answer!

Though, I can't figure out how to differentiate the ones that can and the others.

I was under the impression that you had really few choices among commercial drones to use a custom GCS (I saw that some parrot drones matched with Paparazzi UAV for example) and that you had to do you own drones if you wanted specificities.

I'm slowly getting how all of this work together. What kind of protocol on the drones would allow me to custom my GCS then ?   Would you have a few constructor names that allows the user to fly with his own GCS ?

  • That depend on protocol they use, some will work, while most, like DJI toys won't.
