Optimum quad size for goPro

Hello

I am in the process of planning to built a quad for aerial video - HD with goPro.

I have done a lot of research on frames, and somewhere read that the most stable quad for aerial photography is with dimentions of 60cm between motors (clockwise, not accross), leaving each arm about 44 cm long.

However most vidio's that I see, the quads look smaller in size?

I am planning to use DT750 motors with APC1047 props.

Any advice from you experienced guys will be highly appreciated.

Thank you & enjoy your day!

  • Dont waste you money on the GoPro. It doesnt give QUALITY HD videos. The HD videos all look like trembling jelly, which is difficult to correct even in post-production. Kodak Playsport is better,

  • Hi Theo,

I don't think that the distance between motors is the main factor to get good result with wind.

My copter colleague is owner of a MK Okto (Standard, not Koax) full weight including his sony nexus and his turnigy nano 5000mA (4S)  = 3 kg

So due to it's mass it is much more stable than mine  :)

  • I fly a GoPro on the stock AC frame. I built some mounts to get it out front, and to move the battery back for ballast.

    But it flies just fine.

In my opinion, if you're going to put expensive equipment up in the air, it's advantageous to have more redundancy than a quad offers.

I'd look at some kind of hexa or y6 setup.

  • Man i know how it feels when you post and you get no replies. Can be very discouraging.
I ordered the same motors with 10x6 props and found that it would lift a fully loaded 1kg quad at just over half throttle. I then ordered some 12x4.5 slow fly props and was able to get it hovering at just under half throttle. Measured max amps at full throttle is about 6 amps lower with these props (28amps rather than 34amps). The arms on my new frame are now 48cm from centre to motor so it is big however it is very stable at that size. I don't think it would have any issues lifting a goPro.
