Pixhawk exceeding the 45degree limit

I have a new pixhawk quad on a alien 560 frame and it flys great but theres some strange characteristics its displaying in flight that i cannot cure - basically in stablilse or altitude hold if i push full forward, it will pitch to its 45degree limit as normal but somtimes it exceeds this and nearly flips over forward in forward flight. I have no idea what can be the cause. Its slightly front heavy because of the gimbal but would that cause it?
