Pixhawk-lite vs PX4mini vs pixfalcon

Hi all,

Just wondering if anybody can help me decide on which small form factor pixhawk is the best in terms of cost/performance/usability.

I like this form factor, the cover, and the price, but it's missing the ability to have the buzzer, which in my opinion is quite important. Manufacturing QA/QC may be an issue.

PX4mini

Price is great, not really sure what (if anything) is missing compared to the pixhawk. Also, kinda needs a cover to get it to stick down. Not sure who manufactures this guy.

Pixfalcon

Great form factor, great functions, reliable manufacturer, but very very pricey.

        Nope, no dampening included :)

Sometimes flightcontroller do come without case, the apm2 did it as well when it was brand new.

Its as simple as putting a small square of antistatic foam on top of the baro and put some shrink tubing over the board.

Thats the way i protect my baros from sunlight and interference since the APM1.

        • I am currently flying my uncased PixRacer boards hard mounted to both a QAV250 and a Speedix AQ. I have yet to have a vibration issue. The barometer response is not much different from the PixHawk v1 or the X2 boards I have experience with. Our production revisions include more clear space around the baro chip to allow for baro chamber as part of the case.

    • Linus, what are your thoughts on the XRacer or Pixfalcon?

Trying to wrap my head around which controllers have which features!

      • Developer

The XRacer is brand new. It offers nice features (CAN,ESP8266,..) and it is only 99$, fits in an ZMR btw.

The Pixfalcon is available from our beloved HK, a few bucks more cheap.

If i need to buy a mini px again it would be a XRacer.

These days you get a pixhawk in that smaller package for half the price we were used to. what do one want's more ? MORE TOYS :)

        • Hi Linus, ports wise and all around flexibility, how do these two compare?

          • Developer

In my opinion its the Pixfalcon is a small PIXHAWK derivate and the XRacer is like a successor with more i/o's everywhere, newer sensors and so on.

If you dont fear building a few adapter cables on your own and like to fly cutting edge HW/Software...

            • hmm ok, I love DIY and no problems making cables, although I don't have the crimper for those tiny connectors!

What are those connectors called on the Xracer?

So now, does the Xracer have all the outputs to run gimbal/landing gear?

No problems running any of that from my receiver, but if one wanted to run scripts of have landing gear descend on RTH etc, it will have to go through the FC.

              Appreciate the info Linus!

              • Jason - The connectors on the PixRacer beta board that are pictured are the Molex CLIK-Mate connector. The production boards use a similar connector called the JST GH. The GH connector was selected by DroneCode as their new standard connector. The PixRacer as it is now called, is a lite version of the PixHawk FMUv4. If you want this next generation tech found in the PixRacer but in a more feature rich package. That board will be ready in the next 2 months.

                • Thanks Phil, I'll definitely keep an eye out for that as well. Thanks for the info. Will you guys be sending a board or two to reviewers like Painless360? His videos are amazing.

                  • Request sent. Thank you for the suggestion.
