Pixhawk + photoelectric IR sensor input

Hi,

I'm currently working on a project which would consist into using reflective plates on the ground to perform precision landings. A photoelectric emitter/receptor would be featured on board using an Arduino system to turn it on and off connected to one of the Pixhawk board outputs.

The UAV would reach the landing site using its GPS and hover about 1-2 meters above the ground scanning the area, then, when above the reflective plate (diameter about 15-20 cm), the photoelectric sensor would trigger the landing procedure.

My main concern is: how could I input such a command? It would require to trigger the Pixhawk onboard without the instruction passing though the ground.

I have to admit I'm quite new to such things.

Thanks in advance for your help!
