I just ordered everything to build up a mapping platform on a skywalker similar to the one shown on flightriot.com.
I've never flown an RC plane and know I will have some learning to do before I'm proficient at it. I'd like to practice on something cheaper and more replaceable in a crash. Does anyone have a recommendation on plans for a foamie that I could build that would be somewhat similar to the skywalker? I have access to a laser cutter so it wouldn't be too hard to cut out and build a simple foamie. Ideally it would also work with the motor I ordered (980kv, 4S battery).

Now those two, I have seen before. I keep ALMOST getting into SPAD designs, but at a dollar a sheet, foamboard is just as comfortable as an old pair of jeans at this point. LOL!
Why not try the Maker Trainer http://makezine.com/makerhangar/
Glad to hear you're in the air! How do you like the swappable series? Its a great way to do things. I just haven't gotten the gear crashed out of all my half-done hangar projects yet. LOL!
Any idea what the specs on that battery and motor are? Sounds like you're wanting to build something more substantial than a trainer. I fly mostly 3S, and some 2S.
I have always recommended the BluBaby AP1 for drones, or learning RC. Its what I cut my teeth on, and I'm SO glad i did. There are several BluBaby variations, but the AP1 is designed for carrying a point and shoot digital camera. An APM should be easy.
BBAP1, with 60" wing is AWESOME. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7433838&postcount...
OR, if youlike foamboard, I'm building the MC-172 for my kids to learn on, and I'll be learning to use the APM 2.5 in it. :)
