Hi guys,
I am a complete beginner and have bought a Pixhawk and a Taranis X9D Plus. The TX came with an X8R receiver which I have connected to the pixhawk, but the LED does not come on at all, is it dead?
The Pixhawk is being powered through USB (I've tried many ports) and the PPM encoder light is quickly, continuously flashing blue. It is connected from the RC IN on the Pixhawk to Port 1 on the X8R and no LED comes on, even when I press and hold F/S before plugging in the power.
Does the RX *need* to be powered through a battery to operate? I was under the impression that it was fine to power from USB (with power). If this is the case, what might be causing the X8R to not come on? I'm new to the hobby so I don't want to go and buy a new RX if it's just me doing something ridiculously stupid. I appreciate that the X8R can be in different modes while talking to the TX and that firmware may need to be updated somehow, but would this prevent a seemingly powered X8R from failing to start flashing the LED ?
Fyi, the Pixhawk has a slowly flashing green main LED, the FMU Power LED is red and the I/O PWR LED is also Red, with a blue flashing ACI LED.
Any help / pointers would be appreciated! Thanks :)

Why are you running a encoder if I may ask?
I finally figured out the problem with my setup. On my PPM Encoder I had to close the SJ1 jumper in order for the receiver, X8R, to receive power from the Pixhawk through the PPM Encoder.
The way you show it connected is OK. I have run into USB ports that wouldn't power the entire system (Pixhawk, Rx, telem radio, GPS). In your case I would try external power first to rule out a USB amperage issue.

What ppm encoder? Can you post a picture of your setup
Hi, I have the exact same problem, I was hopping for some answers to your post. Did you (or anyone
