in the planner on the action tab there is a "set home alt" button. which does this.
If you are talking about the mission planner HUD, you can double click on the HUD and it will bring up a massive list of MAVLink fields that you can display. I'm pretty sure there is a relative altitude field. Just tick the box next to it and it will display on the screen.
If you mean on the OSD, download the minimOSD extra firmware here. Way more functional than the "official" one and it has both relative and ASL altitude fields.

Do you have the latest minimOSD firmware? It definitely shows ASL and delta from launch.
