Powering your APM2

There has been some discussion as of late concerning how to power your APM2. When I first started out, I used a Cheap ESC (HK SS) to power my APM, and I thought it was doing a good job.....until I switched to a HK Blue series / Mystery ESC 30amp and notices a huge difference.

There is also the option of removing the jumper, and powering you ESC from 2 sources. However in the case of a small plane like a Bixler, it's not really warranted.

There has also been some talk about using UBEC as the way forward, however when most people take this route they choose a $5 HK BEC, mostly because there is practically no discussion on the different models available. Is using a $5 BEC better then running a Mystery ESC to power your APM?

And finally, although there is mention of it in the Wiki, there seems to be quite a few people plugging all of the wires from there ESC into the APM with all 3 wires intact.

So, is using a cheap BEC better then using power from a decent ESC? What is a Decent ESC? And is it ok to leave all power wires connected when using a linear ESC?

Hopefully this thread will shine some light on this subject.
