Problems with APM1

Hi,

I have just decided to resurrect my old APM1 which I used on a multirotor a few years ago and try it on an X5 flying wing, had 4 test flights yesterday with the latest firmware and couldn't get any of the auto modes to work, I tried stabilize, FBWA and Auto all with similar results, firstly in FBWA when switched in the first couple of time the plane would immediately dive and required full up elevator to maintain level flight, it appeared to keep the wings level but I could not roll at all, even with full stick input the wings stayed level, after a few attempts the dive when switched disappeared but would still not accept any roll or pitch commands. In stabilize mode again it did a good job of keeping the craft level however again would not accept any pitch or roll inputs flying straight and level despite what my stick inputs were, lastly I tried some waypoint flights and uploaded a flight plan, when switched in the plane descended to the correct level and also altered airspeed but once again flew straight and level not turning at the waypoints!

I used the PID's suggested here for the airframe  http://www.makedrones.com/search/label/skywalker%20x5 but these are for an older firmware so not all these parameters are now listed. Should I be using an older firmware with my APM 1 or could it perhaps be faulty?

It has GPS, Compass and Xbee.

Also I could not find the autotune feature to be able to set it as a flight mode.

thanks for your help

  • Hi,
Tried another test flight tonight and have managed to set autotune as a flight mode, done as suggested with the control inputs on the web page but after 4 flights none of the PID's had altered, the plane still wouldnt respnd to stick inputs and continues to fly straight and lev when switched to autotune. Any ideas? Does APM1 even work properly with this latest firmware?
