i was looking for some props at my local hobby shop and all they had were 12x3.8.... and i see on the order form when you pick what prop you want the 12 is 12x4.5...... think the 3.8 will work? i have the 880 motors in the 3d frame...

All things being equal (and unfortunately, they rarely are), the difference is in the pitch of the blade sections. They're probably cheap, right? Give them a whirl, so to speak.
Theoretically, the lower pitch will give less lift, but also less drag. You'll likely have less thrust, but your flight times might be a bit longer. With 880 motors, do check that the maximum RPM of these props will not be exceeded by multiplying the number of battery cells X 4.2 X 880. Let us know how it goes.
