Quadcopter (TBS Discovery) bounces during Auto Land

Hello everyone.
I am trying to get a good tune on my TBS discovery. I have been working on the general flight and it's getting there, yaw is a little aggressive and causes it to wobble around about but I think I can fix that.

One issue that I am having is that when I use Auto Land the quad will touch down correctly but then lifts again, sets down, lifts again, sets down etc. It does this between 1-3 times before it will settle on the ground and reduce the power to the motors

As far as I was aware the bouncing issue was supposed to be resolved with firmware 2.9.1 onwards, I am using version 3.0.1 and it is still occurring.

Are there any steps I can take to stop it from bouncing? Can it be tuned out or can hardware changes be made on the quad that may affect it ie. GPS sensor position, external magnetometer etc.

Cheers, Cameron

  • I have the same problem - as you can see in the screenshot from an waypoint mission. Auto Land procedure starts at around line 13000. The red line is the baro, green Throttle In and blue Throttle Out:

  • Hi,

I have exact the same problem.

Bounces 1-3 times when I use Auto Land like with RTL.

My Throttle stick is always low before it touches down in auto land. So that couldn't be the problem.

I use the APM 2.6 with V3.1-rc7 firmware.

My TBS Disco Pro is quite well tuned. I used the Auto Tune option which is new in the V3.1-rc7. I really recommant it. Also I use the V Frame setting at Mission Planner. It is a big difference to my tuning attempts.

So if anyone has an idea what causes the bouncing, I would really appreciate it a lot.

  • Is your throttle still at below midstick? Mine does this in "Loiter lands", usually because I've still got some stick on. <facepalm>
