QuadPower QuadCopter Project

Hey guys,
I have been posting a lot in the RC Groups forum for a while now.  Unfortunately, I haven't spent much time on DIY drones.  I wanted to introduce a project to you that we have been working for a while.  It's called QuadPower.  QuadPower is a multicopter project we started last year.  The software is given away without charge in compiled form.  The boards are sold on this website. http://www.quadpowered.com  All proceeds from boards are reinvested to develop more add-on boards and features, in this sense we are not for profit.

Here are some features we have worked on so far:

-Plug and Play use (just hookup to your quad and fly)

-Using Brushed or Brushless motors

-Fixed or variable pitch motors

-Almost any size motor or frame (e.g.) capable of running a very large motors for carrying more weight

-Position holding gyros on all axes

-Fully 3D capable with variable pitch motors

-Fully re-programmable hardware (for when new firmware is released)

- Support +, X, Y6, Hexa motor configurations

-Altitude hold via barometer / accelerometer

-Future Implementation of GPS hold.

-Auto leveling

-Automatic Pitch,Roll compsensation for AV cameras.

-Built in control for pan/tilt when in altitude hold mode

-Comprehensive instructions to ensure your success

-Board will be labled to help you find the right connectors

-Emergency landing sequence incase of signal loss.

-Basic and Aerobatic mode. Basic uses accelerometer to keep the quad level when the sticks are centered. It limits the maximum bank angle achievable. Aerobatic allows the user to rely on the gyros only for stable, but more extreme performance.

-Board is 100% scalable. Modules can be purchased to add features. Base board is just RC capable. From there Altitude hold, auto leveling, magnetic heading hold, and GPS position hold can be added by plugging additional modules into the board.

The only thing you need to provide are

4x motors

4x matching ESCs

1x Quadcopter frame

1x Lithium Polymer batttery

1x receiver for your transmitter

I wanted to get some feedback from you guys as I know there is a lot of interest and expertise on these forums.

Okay, I think everyone has had their say on this one, so I'm going to close the thread. Competition is good and I think both Quadpowered and OpenPilot will have a valuable place in the market, but I'd rather see this is a battle of autopilots, not words. In general, we try to keep the conversation civil here and not allow personal attacks. I think this thread has now crossed the line, so it's finished.
  • Let me make one thing clear. QuadPower is not open source. It however is a community oriented project. I'm not saying open source is bad, just that I thought I'd try something different. I also made justifications for the reasoning behind this. Feel free to disagree. But don't label me as dishonest because I'm not.
  • So, what kinds of features should we look into/add? Also, what kinds of problems are you guys seeing with existing platforms that we can try and solve? Any feedback you guys can give is much appreciated.
  • QuadPower base board (provides basic remote control capability with the option to add-on features at a later date)

AccelPower board. Provides Autoleveling, Altitude hold, OSD, Roll/Tilt compensation for cameras, Status LED. Additionally we plan to add a feature which will give a visual indication of a low battery (e.g. an aileron wiggle every 5 seconds)

Welcome! How does Quadpowered compare to OpenPilot, which we've heard a lot about here?
