Radio Broadcast Transmission Tower inspections

Hi all,

It's been a long time since I've posted on here.

I work for a radio broadcast company, and I've been wondering about the use of drones to inspect the tower and mounts of antennas and other gear mounted up there.

We have STL links and FM broadcast gear up there, but having said that, there are also other station's equipment too. There's often other gear too, maybe microwave links, phone towers etc... all the good stuff that could potentially kill a drone.

Has anyone had any experience in doing this kind of thing? Have you had interference?

Does the (if any) interference effect the GPS, remote control radios, video feeds, the circuitry in the APM etc?

This is only an idea at the stage, but if I can save 10-15 on climb time, this would be of great benefit.

    Unless you have EMI protected equipment, you should expect moderate to heavy jamming and saturation of your electronics.

    A Phone in your pocket acknowledging a SMS or looking for network can saturate your R/C transmitter electronics, so a full tower...
