I am an amateur and I am onto making an android controlled UAV, using APM and PhoneDrone android board. I got a few doubts.

1. Is there an application interface currently available to solely control, collect data and images from the UAV using my android tablet, without the need for a computer?

2. Is the board and the code compatible with android 3.2 Honeycomb?

3. My device does not have a standard microUSB port, but it has a Samsung proprietary port. but I think interfacing wont be a problem.

Thanking you in advance...

  • All you need is android 3.0 device or garter 4.0 is out now. A good China device will run you about $200 no GPS. To answer your last question you would plug your phones USB charger cable into the full size USB port in the APM. I was using Dell streak for this but I broke the screen. In regards to your first question Android developers have used the ADK to control camera & snap shots from DSLR & the board will run this code but you can not use the board as an APM & camera controller at the same time.

  • Any progress since your last post Edward? I am trying to do a similar thing but have several questions with regards to the PhoneDrone. Do you know if I can connect the PhoneDrone to the telemetry?

    Thanks,

    John

The Android GCS is called Copter GCS and you can read about it here

  • Like, just to clarify, I want to eliminate the use of a standard Windows/Mac/Linux system totally for operating the drone.
