Relocate daughter board?

As I see its just a connection with a 2x6 header between the APM2 and daughter board, is it feasible to make an adapter cable to relocate the daughter board? Per say if the APM2 is mounted by a motor or mostly surrounded by CF/fiberglass, could it help increase the GPS signal? or is there other interference that could be caused either by cable or to the APM2 that I am missing? This could even help with access to data card if the APM2 is hard to get to on airframe.

Have searched forum for 30 mins so if its posted somewhere else I am sorry for starting redundant thread.

  • It's more than just the connector-you must provide power and ground via the outer mounting pin locations.

In theory it works but don't forget that this is IC2 bus data so you will be limited in the length of wire to a couple of inches before you start losing coms.

You are far better off to just remove the GPS module and use and external one. While dificult, it's not impossible to unsolder it.

Using the same method I use for SMT devices, desolde the back mounting locations first, then desolder the front row of connections. You can then either buy a new module or reuse the one you have and plug into the GPS port.
