Rookie needs advice

I am new to rc and rc planes. I'm trying to get into the game with a scratch build using the Experimental Airlines techniques. While I first want to start with a plain electric rc plane, I'm interested in maybe getting an ArduPlane and turning it into a Drone at some stage. The build I have decided upon is a twin boom pusher, 1400mm wing x ~800mm nose to rudder. I don't have an estimated weight yet but I wouldn't expect it to be much higher than a similar sized airframe.

While I am fairly comfortable with the numbers and techniques of the construction, one thing which I have been struggling with is the power train. I would like good endurance, I was hoping somewhere around 40 minutes. I have been playing around on eCalc and have managed to get a system with a TWR of 0.75 (with a general guess to weight of the frame) and endurance numbers of 32 mins @ WOT.
I was wondering if these numbers look viable or if someone could suggest a better alternative? The link to my eCalc is below.

  • Hi I am very familiar with experimental airlines (love his videos). Now iv only built one plane of his and Iv never hooked up arduno or anything but what I can say is your math seems right. Now with that said the other half of this equation is how you fly. you may want the wings extended with a slight dihedral of 30 degrees towards the end of the wings, in flight cut your throttle and glide. This should* give you plenty of extra flight time, adding dihedral to the wings is easy but you may not need it, just cutting power to throttle will help.
