I'm relatively new here, so please forgive me for asking what might be a dumb question. But any insight is appreciated.A little research demonstrates that the amateur use of drones is 99.99% DIY. There's really no way (that I have found) to buy an off-the-shelf RC aircraft that can pilot itself, i.e. an amateur drone or UAV. If such vendors or products exist, please enlighten me, but I can't find 'em.That being said, home-made drones seem like the coolest thing on the planet to me, except for the small problem that I was a humanities major in college and possess little to no engineering or technical skills (only enough to launch and land R/C aircraft.) I just really want to have my own UAV to use as a photo/video platform. Are there any trustworthy vendors, or individuals, to whom one might be able to provide end-product specifications, get a quote, and commission a drone for a reasonable price? Thanks...

1. What is it that you want to accomplish with a "drone" beside taking pictures?
2. If taking pictures is the only thing you want to do then you don't even need a drone - just a RC plane with video/photo camera onboard is enough
You can get a CropCam for $7k, but anything cheaper than that's going to require some DIY. But a Superstar plus an AttoPilot plus an RC system is only around $1k and could be put together over a weekend by a relative beginner.
