RTL Just Saved My Quad

So, I was just out FPVing.  While I was 195m from home, I suddenly lost all video.  I hit RTL and hoped for the best as I removed my FPV goggles.  Sure enough, after about 10 seconds I spotted my quad coming home like a trained puppy.  After landing, I discovered why my video had just suddenly dropped out...

Moral of the story is ensure that all connectors are tight and secure.  As you can see from the picture, the right angle connector actually came apart; it did not unscrew.

  • I appreciated RTL a month or so ago..

I was flying a programmed mission at 60 meters In Auto mode.  The final waypoint was 1/2 a kilometer away and over some heavy bush.  After it reached the waypoint, it was supposed to RTL.   But instead of returning, my hex started dropping.   I couldn't see it directly because there were some tall trees in the way, (I was watching on FPV so I knew what it was doing).   I clicked RTL on my transmitter and it 'came right home to daddy'  :)

It turns out when I programed the mission, instead of setting RTL for the last command I clicked Land by mistake. (Which is right above RTL on the popup menu in MP).   It's something I watch for now.

  • RTL has saved my bacon more than once, both from video issues such as yours and one random RC link loss. Some sort of interference cause the transmitter link to drop and it went in to fail-safe RTL. On the other incident with video link loss I just switched to RTL as you did and she came home like your trained puppy. Glad to see you got it back safe.

That's a happy ending for sure Jim!
