I think it was the very first post I made (not that I have made many) about how either people like us (Private Drone enthusiasts and potential entrepreneurs) can take the innitiative and set the standard, or we can get walked all over by regulation and bureaucrats setting them for us.

We should set "Classes" or categories of Drones/Multi-rotors, etc.

We should set down some agreed upon idea of what a drone landing pad should be in size, markings, etc.

We should start serious discussions about all kinds of standards - and why?

Because if we can agree upon, vote upon, etc. the coming standards, and make them the accepted standard among ourselves, then when the bureaucrats start getting deep into our business, they are going to want to figure out what standards should be set, and if they are already set, the lazy bastards might just accept the prevailing standards already in existence, which we would have set, if we decide to set them.

To do so is not rocket science, it is not even hard or difficult, and in fact, could be quite fun, if the admins/moderators of this forum would start some kind of contest to do so.

If we do not set the standards, then someone who does not necessarily know what they are talking about or dealing with will SET THEM FOR US, and the odds are that we will not like it to say the least!

  • I tell you what - is there a "like" and/or "share" function here - maybe you can do that for this post, refer it to your other friends on DIY D. I am glad that at least one other person sees the merit in this.

The way forums go from my limited experience with them, this might be one of those situations where nobody listens to you unless you are an ex fighter pilot, a commercial pilot, or work for lockheed or something. If you check my other postings, you may see that I have made more than one issue worth furthering or commenting on.

I can almost feel it - we are not just on the cutting edge of this stuff, we have a comfortably wide margin where people have fantasticZa possibilities that they have not even made use of yet, but soon, and likely all TOO soon, we could find ourselves suddenly wondering "what just happened?, you mean we can't fly private drones at all without a commercial pilot's license?" - I know that issue has already been dealt with, but my point is that I feel like I am waving a red flag and sounding the alarm for people who are too asleep to see what's coming.  As it is, there are groups out there fighting the legal battles, and that is great, but nobody is doing much else it seems.

Impending fate is hanging heavy over all our heads.

  • No, on the contrary, I have been away for some time, but I get virtually NO replies, comments, PMs, etc. for any of my recent posts (Feel free to check in case I am wrong)

There are a lot of issues that people are just plain ignoring - to all our detriment.

People have yet to exhaust the technology already commonly available. Very few are truly pushing the envelope, and on one hand, it could be very advantageous to me once I get in a position to do some serious fabrication, but on the other hand, it is so very dissapointing to the point of being depressing.

Can you help? Do I need to start 'friending' people all over the place just so my posts are even seen or something?

Thanks - I will try to send you a friend request, but my luck with online sites like this has not been very good lately, lol...
