Dreaming about my rocket drone concern, I was thinking : what about a mode conflict : Asking RTL with switch 7 when keeping switch 5 on ATL Hold - and maybe adding throttle (as SOS).
Could it be a good reason why APM going mad due to a stupid and improbable setup.

RTL takes precedence over any pilot inputs. You can wiggle the sticks (including throttle), toggle CH5 through Loiter, Acro, Toy or Guided and even do the mag-calibration dance around your TX. As long as CH7 is set to RTL, and there's juice in the pack, it will try to come home.
