Taking APM 2.5 skying on a multicopter.

Hey all,

So im going skying and im taking with me my toothbrush AND my flying camera :D

But here is what im dealing with:

If im in the mountains and somehow the copter goes into failsafe it will enter RLT mode.

My RTL mode is set to 25m ish and ofcoarse in the mountains you could be 800m high but still only 10m from the ground...

How does this work? Do i need to get a sonar for this to work? And will that even work?

What if RLT is invoked when im using a sonar and the RTL altitude is lower than the ground...?

I know i could set the home altitude to 0, and then figure out how high i will be flying on the slopes at maximum and put that maximum as RTL altitudde?

I hope you understand what i mean, and hopefully you guys have some tips.

  • Yes but when i am 100m up the slopes, and 4m off the ground RTL will cause it to goto 25m and thus burrow itself into the mountain?

Even if you are 800m up, when you arm your copter, that start point is 0 altitude. If RTL is 25m, then the copter will climb 25m and return.
