Test iris+ before flight?

Hi.

I'm totally new to this hobby... Just got a iris+ and installed missionplanner.. Like I normally do with equipment I make sure that it got the latest firmware.. 3.2... I downloaded it and every thing should be OK after I made a calibration, or? On 3DR's I saw that they don't recommend doing the update... (http://3drobotics.com/iris/info/ bottom of page) woops...

Is there a way I can test every parameters in my iris+ before takeoff? Was thinking it would be a good idea also to test the motors (without propellers)..

  • Hi Peter,

Just my limited experience, but the firmware update should be fine, and calibrating the ESCs and compass can't hurt, but that hardware should be good to go from 3DR as-is. I flew my original IRIS for months without a recalibration, with and without a gimbal and swapping battery sizes, with not a single issue after updating firmware multiple times (the upgrade to IRIS+ is a different situation). If you're referencing the first bullet under FAQ on that page, I think they just want you to know that it's really RTF and the setup wizard part isn't necessary, but you won't do any harm recalibrating either.
