testing an ardupilot shield

Is there any way to check the functionality of a shield board without having it connected to a pilot board?

I manged to short something on one of these two tonight and I now can't get any lights on either board unless there is a FTDI cable connected. I can't get communication through the shield or directly connected to the Ardupilot using Arduino or the config tool. I'm reasonbly sure the Ardupilot is out but wanted to know if I can test the shield so I can get the replacement at the same time if necessary.

There is no processing capacity on the board, so not really any way to test things. You could set up a generic Arduino to do it, but it would be a lot of work . Just get a new APM board is unfortunately the best answer.
  • did you power up the board properly?
