I would just want to know if there is ayn recommended altitude to test the failsafe in the field? The reason I'm asking this is because the last time I field tested the failsafe my hexacopter rolled to left and crashed. Two broken arms and a couple of broken wires. The altitude during my last test was around 4meters.
Another thing I want to know is if I set the failsafe to continue the mission and I'm not in the AUTO mode, what will APM do? Will it RTL or LAND?

I had a similar issue, and was told without any reasoning not to test failsafe like I was.... I'm still trying to figure out why, but no success so far.

My issue
I do understand not to activate failsafe on the ground. I believe failsafe should only be activated when the copter is up in the air but I need to know the safe or recommended altitude. I followed the FS procedure as per wiki page and it is behaving as it should be. However, that procedure is ground testing and no props attached.
During my first field test of throttle FS, my hexa is about 4 meters when it tilted and crashed. I was thinking of trying throttle FS around 80 meters so in the event that the copter is starting to tilt for a crash, I might be able to recover by powering the TX and switching the flight mode to recover control. Anyway, I'm still not brave enough to try that height because it could lead to more damage equipment.
I saw your video and my comment on the strange behaviour of the failsafe on your second test is that your copter is not yet airborne when you activated the throttle FS. Looks like your first video with 3S battery is not really a throttle FS. It was battery failsafe as what was flashed on the screen.
