Transmitter Advice

I am just starting out (in the planning stage) with UAV and FPV flying. I have been looking around at the equipment I would need and I have run into one conundrum: I need a transmitter/receiver pair for control, telemetry, and video. From what I have read, 2.4GHz transmitters are better than older style 72MHz systems mostly because of features (pairable, less interference). DIYDrones recommends a 900MHz xbee module for telemetry for maximum range. Now in choosing the last piece of the puzzle, the video transmitter, it seems that most recommend 900MHz systems with 2.4GHz also available. So we have:Control: 2.4GHz (preferred?) or 72MHzXBee: 900MHz (preferred) or 2.4GHz availableVideo: 900MHz (preferred?) or 2.4GHzAre there other options? What are people using? Obviously, the goal is maximum range and minimal interference.

    there are other choices on Tx freq .


     

    I choose 435 Mhz for long range  but with required qualifications.    there is Dragonlink and Scherrer LRS

  • Jake, this is probably not what you're looking for, and I'm not aware of what the cost would be (have to contact the manufacturer directly - no online pricing)... but you could use a high-speed spread-spectrum (GFSK modulation, to boot) connection to transmit video (must first be encoded from analog to digital - with something like a JPEG2000 wavelet encoder), telemetry and control through the same data link. The FreeWave MM2 seems to fit the bill (30 miles with up to 1.2Mbit link) with 1W at 900MHz (no license required). However, it would require video codecs on both ends of the link and some custom work.
  • I could be wrong, but I don't think 1.2 or 1.3GHz are legal in the U.S.

    What kind of 435MHz make good systems?

    Telemetry : 900 Mhz
    Video : 1.2 , 1.3, or 2.4Ghz
