Hi all,

For a research application I need to lift 1kg using my quadcopter.

My original configuration was:

  • xAircraft x650v frame
  • 3s XXL Power 5ah 50c lipo (406g)
  • xAircraft p3001 motors 950kv (48g each)
  • xAircraft 10x4.5 props
  • AKE 12A esc

I tried to lift a 623g payload with this configuration, and found the copter would hop up at full throttle and then battery voltage would drop very low and it would come back down.

I upgraded to 4s:

  • AKE nano-tech 4s 15C 5850mah lipo

and successfully lifted 800g payload and flew for several minutes. Great, let's see if we can do better, I thought.

So, I upgraded further to

  • A.K.E DARK Magic DM750L 750KV (69g)
  • SIGMA carbon fiber 11x45 propellers (very pointy and aggressive looking!)

Now, I have similar results to the original configuration-- if I try and lift 800g, it hops up and then comes back down. Also, my flight duration with no payload is not that great -- about 18 minutes. I thought with big props, low KV motors, and big 4s battery, I would do better than that.

So, the question is, what is the limiting factor here? Are the 12A escs not sufficient (I am also using 2mm bullets and wiring)? Does my battery need to be more than 15C?

Any advice appreciated.

Aaron

  • welll the motors have a Maximum current (MAX. Continuous Current): 20A So you need at least esc's that can give 20 amps continuous. most likely you will get a 10 minute flight time with those motors and 20 amp esc's.

The 15c 4S pack will provide over 80 amps so if it is actually delivering the rated power it should be sufficiant. There are dis-reputable battery companies out there (one example rhymes with FAX CAMPS) that list their short term burst as their constant C.  The name has been occluded to spare DIY drones the hassle of dealing with them.

You would have probably gotten more reply's in the quad-rotor forum.
