Hello DIY Community,

My team and I are in need of atmoshpheric wind data ASAP for university research purposes measured via a pitot tube mounted on-board a UAV flight system. Since we don't currently have the capability to fly an autonomous (APM or otherwise) RC aircraft, I am looking for a qualified individual or a small consultancy company whom we can partner with to operate their UAV and gather our wind velocity data.

We are prepared to pay for this service on a day-by-day basis. Ideally, we are looking for a gas/ nitro twin-boom type UAV design where the probe can be mounted on the nose.

If you know of a small UAV company or individual who may be able to provide this service (in the New York or Northeast region the better) I would really appreciate if you could leave me a comment and I will be sure to follow up with you. Thanks so much.

Regards,

Victor

  • Hi Victor,

You're going to have trouble finding help with this.. commercial operators can't operate UAS in the United States without a COA and very few organizations have a COA.. check out this link with a list of organizations that do have a COA. Maybe you can get a university like Cornell to help.

  • Although I cannot help you in your data, I am wondering if you or anyone else out there has tried to insert one of the Pilot Tubes inside an air vane to use as an anemometer?
