ublox vs MediaTek

Tried the GPS hold in my quad today, and it looks to be working. It will hover within about a 10-15 ft space horizontally and about 6-8 ft vertically.

Will the ublox module provide better accuracy or is a matter of the rate at which the APM is sampling and reacting to the GPS?

It looks like the microtek MediaTek gps typically takes 2-3 minutes to get a gps lock, which is about what it takes my garmin (car gps) from a cold boot, so I guess that is normal.

Well to have 10-15ft hor/6-8ft vert is rather good already due general GPS accuracy is about 15ft. And like Sebastian said too, MTEK is better for Quad use due it's antenna. It is a bit difficult to install uBlox with helix antenna. Helix antennas has rahter small field of view.

Accuracy also highly depends on what software you are using.

By microtek, I assume you mean MediaTek. 2-3 minutes is longer than average, but that depends on where you are and atmospheric conditions, etc.
  • mediatek has better accuracy AND higher sampling rate

tune your PIDs to get a better GPS hold
