Unable to access terminal mode, using suggested baud rate as per manual

I get opening com port and then random characters, According to the manual i should see this

This will bring up the Terminal window, and if your APM slider switch is in the right postition (towards the RC connectors), you should see the APM CLI menu:

It seems i am unable to sync between pc and board any ideas please?

    Anton,

    Looks okay to me. Try typing "help" at the ArduPilotMega] prompt.

    Just a thought.
