Vario Benzin Trainer project

Bench testing of flight controls...everything seems to be ok.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTysKyzhH-Q&feature=youtu.be

just some details on firmware (AC3.2rc14):

- added the fourth servo and changed the control laws to fit a 4 points swashplate layout;

- added extra servo for engine throttle control mix...not sure it will work fine (i have made some tests only on a little .30 helicopter in stabilize and acro mode);

StatorGator and Futaba GV1 fitted as a good and reliable backup solution, even if expensive and unfortunately hard to find in these days.

    • Fantastic work. I can't wait for the official release of the firmware (for Pixhawk gasser helis). I have a couple of Airstar International Evolutions I'd love to try this on

  • Hi Ferruccio,

    Any update on your project? Any idea when your code for gasser helis will be available for download?

    • Chris, I have made a second test machine too, a T700 with OS15GT gasser engine. Code is working good, but I cannot answer directly to your question. Better to ask to developers if they are going to include it in the next releases.

      Here a short footage of my DFC with servo throttle function:

  • I added a feature on the attitude controller to deal with tail rotor trust effect, instead of using trim on roll axis:

    • Hi,

      looks nice. I just used the 'Accelerometer Calibration' by giving the heli enough tilt to the side in the 'Level' position.

      • Ultrafuge that's correct, but it might be ok for just one combination of collective pitch/tail rotor offset (Hovering condition).

        So if, for example, you change your payload during one mission, you might re-adjust the trim to achieve the no-drift condition again, or just keep pushing the stick on one side.

        I feel it quite uncomfy...so I thought why not relate the collective amount with a roll trim? sounds much easier, and in my case, since  i'm going to attach heavy (and variable during flight) loads to the helicopter, it's the easiset way of achieving a balanced flight attitude for each payload condition...

        • Sorry for my bad English, looks nice = Hey great, I like it, when can I get it :-)))

          I agree 100% with your reply !

          • Sound ! I have no problems to share my fw if you want to give a try. Better would be if Robert or Randy could have a look at the fw, since i have made some other mods, like active throttle control for gassers/nitro (Robert I tried implementing your suggestions, it works, but servo has a sort of glitches, randomly, so I have rebuilt the code in a different way, now seems to be working properly) and CCPM H4 swashplate.

            • Thank you for your kind proposal, I am very interested in trying it. Ofcourse it would be nice to have it in the regular code, but I don't know how long that takes.

              I am flying electrified with CCPM H3 swash plate. Could you please post the code or tell me where to find it.

              Another question, do you have a working Ch7 ?

              • Sorry Ultra, by ch7 you mean throttle function?

                I think the easiest could be to send you the .px4 file. Are you using Pixhwak? I still have to update my GitHub for the code (I didn't have so much time these last weeks).

                I have made two versions of the roll-comp function, one has a linear behavior, centered (=0 roll_offest) in the collective mid position (0° blades incidence, as for the tail rotor pre-comp).

                The second one instead is sinusoidal, centered in the collective mid position too.

                I have done the second type of roll_comp to take into account the increase of rotor lift while increasing the roll tilt angle because I think the tilt angle required is non linearly linked to the collective increase...just guessing!
