Does anybody know of a decent way to waterproof an X copter? There must be a decent way to protect the apm / pixhawk etc and the receiver from water. I live by the great lakes [ Michigan ] and do a lot of boating. I'd love to get some good video but holy cow if I had an issue and dunked the thing that would be a real bad day!! Seems like the motors could dry out oaky. ESC's I could cover with silicone to keep them dry. The battery... hmm yea silicon on the one open end. But I'm not sure what to do for the controller, receiver and telemetry. It would have to be accessible for firmware updates etc. On top off all that it would have to float. Anyway if anybody knows of or has idea's I'd be really interested. thx

This is with my 808 [ Got a Mobius now ] on a super cub. Not the greatest vehicle when it's breezy. I have a Sig Seniorita with a Saito 56 as well. Found a waterproof case too. This is over Stokes Bay Ontario Canada. Lake Huron way out there. Now I can actually finally see the shoals the skeg of my motor found! :] But the 808 just doesn't do this justice. A copter will be killer for some up close pics of lighthouses etc.

Ordered my aquacopter! Also a 3gr pixhawk! I'm stoked! I go up north both in Michigan and Ontario. There are miles and miles of beaches and islands. The color of the water with it clarity makes for some top notch video. Gonna put my Mobius on there with a gimbal. I will using mission planner on my pc and or tablet to create so killer missions around islands, lighthouses, and some very unique rock cliffs on Georgian bay. Getting set up in a completely waterproof set up [ all but the gimbal but I think it will work fine after it dries just like the motors ] will be a HUGE factor in getting great video because I won't be as worried about it getting wet. Way more fun too. Mega stressful flying your $1000 pride and joy over water!!
Landing on water is important during our operations, see above.
The motors will have problems after some period :-(

During this event Dong Solar challenge 2012 we lost one quad.
Filming during rain does not work, you will have drips on the lens before the rain starts!

I wonder if it is really needed to have a completely closed case.. has anyone tried to just make the components waterproof to e.g. fly in rain? (of course this probably won't work if you are actually landing in water)
