I saw an image on the homepage of a flying wing with this module installed and a laptop with the other part of the system connected to it. this made me wonder about what it's for. my recent UAV is capable of carrying an eagletree telemetry system and an FPV sys. w/head tracking.

It's just a wireless serial technology. Works just like your FTDI cable but over distances. BTW, this and other terms are all defined in the glossary, linked on the front page/.
