That is just like on the Food Network shows.. presentation.
All that plastic is there to make you feel like you purchased something other than a 1/2 inch long piece of wire.
To be fair, it was in a nice looking housing. They probably use the same housing for different lengths (ergo frequencies) of wire. Saves them $$ from a fabrication perspective.
Glad you are discovering the world of radio antennas.

Tested video out to about .75k. So far so good. Will update as I fly farther.
